Wydad Casablanca has expressed interest in signing former Raja Casablanca left-back Mahmoud Bentayg during the current summer transfer window. According to “Barlaman Sport,” the Moroccan giants are keen to bolster their squad by acquiring the services of the player who currently plies his trade with French club AS Saint-Étienne.
The report reveals that Hicham Aït Menna, the vice-president of Wydad’s football division, has already made contact with Bentayg to gauge his interest in joining the red and white ranks.
This approach is seen as a strategic effort by Wydad to strengthen their left-back position following the recent departure of Algerian defender Ilyes Chetti and the exit of Yahia Attiyat Allah at the end of last season.
Bentayg, who enjoyed a notable stint with Raja Casablanca before moving to France, has caught the eye of Wydad’s management as a potential key addition to their squad.
His experience in both Moroccan and European football makes him a valuable target for Wydad, who are looking to maintain their competitive edge domestically and in continental competitions.
“Barlaman Sport” indicates that the discussions between Bentayek and Aït Menna are still in the preliminary stages.
However, the prospect of Bentayg’s return to Moroccan football, especially with Raja’s fierce rivals, has already generated significant buzz among fans and pundits alike.
The 27-year-old Bentayg, known for his defensive solidity and ability to support the attack, would bring much-needed depth and quality to Wydad’s defense.
His potential signing is seen as a direct response to the gaps left by Chetti and Attiyat Allah, both of whom were integral to Wydad’s recent successes.
