Wydad Casablanca has officially parted ways with head coach Rulani Mokwena, concluding a turbulent season marked by underwhelming performances and mounting pressure.
The decision, announced in a joint statement on Tuesday, brings Mokwena’s short stay at the club to a close by mutual agreement.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss took charge at the start of the season, bringing with him high hopes after success in South Africa. But things didn’t go as planned. A dip in form during the crucial stages of the season proved costly, and the pressure mounted as results failed to meet expectations.
Tensions between Mokwena and the club’s leadership began to grow. In April, he was granted special leave, signaling the start of an uncertain period that has now ended in a formal split.
Despite the rocky ending, Mokwena shared kind words for the Wydad family, thanking club President Hicham Ait Menna, the players, staff, and loyal fans for their support and energy.
With Mokwena gone, Wydad are expected to move quickly in appointing a new head coach for the next campaign.
