Wydad Casablanca has dismissed reports suggesting that Hakim Ziyech has joined their training camp ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Multiple reports have emerged saying the former Chelsea and Ajax winger has teamed up with Wydad as they prepare for the expanded tournament, which will be hosted in the United States of America.
However, a source has revealed that Ziyech, who recently amicably terminated his contract with Qatari club Al-Duhail, is not currently among the club’s targets.
“Ziyech was a target for Wydad during the previous winter transfer window when his relationship with Turkish club Galatasaray deteriorated. A respectable financial offer was negotiated with him to end the season with the team, but he chose to join Al-Duhail, after which all attempts were halted,” the source revealed.
“Ziyech remains one of the most prominent stars of the Moroccan national team, but he is going through a delicate situation and is not currently part of Wydad’s plans. Coach Benhachem and sporting director Benabicha are the ones who determine the team’s needs, and Ziyech is not among them.”
Wydad continues its closed training camp at the Mohammed VI Complex, with support from the Moroccan Football Federation, in preparation for the Club World Cup.
The team played two friendly matches, losing 1-0 to Porto and Sevilla.
Wydad have been housed in Group G alongside Manchester City, Juventus and Al Ain.
