Wydad Casablanca are on the verge of securing a permanent deal for South African winger Thembinkosi Lorch, following his standout performances at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The 31-year-old joined Wydad on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns during the January transfer window.
The South Africa star’s loan agreement included a $500,000 buy option, but Sundowns have now increased the asking price to $1 million due to his impressive displays.
Lorch featured in 16 matches for the Moroccan giants last season, scoring three goals—two in the Botola Pro league and one during the Club World Cup.
While Wydad decided against retaining fellow Sundowns loanee Cassius Mailula due to financial limitations, the club remains keen on keeping Lorch despite current budget constraints.
However, the potential transfer has divided opinion among fans. Some supporters are questioning the cost and the value of signing a player approaching the latter stages of his career.
“If he signs for two more years, he’ll be 33—how much can a winger contribute at that age?” one fan posted on Facebook. Another questioned: “If the fee is €1 million, what kind of salary will he command?”
