Former secretary-general of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Hicham El Amrani, beleives Wydad Club Athletic has benefited from parting ways with Rulani Mokwena.
The South African gaffer has relieved of his duties due to the shaky performances of the side.
Mokwena has been replaced by Mohamed Amine Benhachem, who has been tasked with overseeing the final three league fixtures.
Having taken over the side, Benhachem led the side to record a 2-1 win against AS FAR as they continue to push to secure a place in the CAF Champions League next season.
El Amrani, speaking on the programme The Truth in 90 Minutes, said that the change in coaching staff made the difference.
“Wydad showed a different spirit and better tactical organisation, which confirms the team has benefited from the change in technical management.”
He added: “Benhachem knew how to place each player in their proper position, which gave the team greater cohesion on the pitch, unlike what we saw during Mokwena’s tenure, where there was a lack of spirit and harmony.”
As revealed by AfricaSoccer.com, Mokwena will take home $1m as compensation, having signed a three-year deal in July 2024.
