Recent rumors suggesting the demolition of the Wydad and Raja sports complexes in Casablanca have been categorically denied by local authorities.
Abdellatif Naciri, the deputy mayor of Casablanca, refuted the claims, stating that the allegations are “totally false.”
In an exclusive statement to Le Site info, Naciri clarified that there are no plans for the destruction of these iconic sporting venues.
Instead, he confirmed that both the Mohamed Benjelloun and Oasis stadiums, home to the Wydad and Raja clubs respectively, will undergo significant redevelopment.
This redevelopment work is planned in preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON),” Naciri explained.
The renovations will focus on improving key aspects such as the playing surfaces, changing rooms, and lighting facilities, ensuring that the venues meet the highest standards for the upcoming tournament.
The announcement aligns with Casablanca’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its sports infrastructure in advance of hosting the prestigious continental football competition.
The authorities are committed to ensuring that the city is fully prepared to accommodate the influx of teams, officials, and fans expected for the event.
The redevelopment of the Wydad and Raja complexes is part of a broader initiative to elevate the quality of sporting facilities across Casablanca, which plays a central role in Morocco’s bid to host international events.
With the African Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in 2025, the city is keen to showcase its capability to host such a significant tournament.
Despite the initial confusion surrounding the potential demolition, local officials have reassured fans and the wider public that the future of the two stadiums remains secure.
The ongoing improvements are seen as an investment in both the facilities and the overall development of Moroccan football.
As the redevelopment project moves forward, Wydad and Raja fans can rest assured that their beloved complexes will remain standing, ready to host future generations of football matches, with enhanced amenities and infrastructure to match the rising standards of international competition.
