Moroccan giants Wydad AC have completed the signing of former Senegal international M’Baye Niang on a permanent transfer, AfricaSoccer.com can confirm
The 29-year-old has been unattached since departing Italian club FC Empoli in July 2024 following the expiration of his contract.
Niang arrived in Casablanca on Saturday to conclude negotiations with Wydad and subsequently undergo his medical examination before putting pen to paper.
Wydad, after missing out on a place in CAF inter-club competitions after last season, are keen on strengthening their squad for the new campaign, which has already kicked off.
The Red Castle have already secured the services of South African forward Cassius Mailula, defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil, amongst others.
The acquisition of Niang underscores the ambitions of the club for the 2024-25 season.
The former France youth star began his career at local side SM Caen before moving to AC Milan in August 2012, where he made 79 appearances, scoring 12 goals and delivering 9 assists.
During his time at Milan, he enjoyed loans at Montpellier, Genoa, Watford, and Torino, where he joined on a permanent basis in July 2018.
Niang also had loan stints with Stade Rennes and Al Ahli Saudi before heading to Girondins Bordeaux, AJ Auxerre, Adana Demirspor, and Empoli in subsequent transfers.
The lanky forward has four international goals for Senegal after 27 appearances, including one at the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Poland.
