World Cup Qualifiers: Karl Etta Eyong earns first call-up as Cameroon announce squad
Marc Brys has named his Cameroon squad for the decisive final fixtures of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, handing a first call-up to Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong.
The 22-year-old forward, who has made an impressive start to the La Liga season with four goals and three assists, is among three newcomers drafted into the Indomitable Lions’ set-up.
Brys’ list, unveiled on Friday, reflects both continuity and bold selection decisions.
Alongside Etta Eyong, Samuel Junior Kotto of La Gantoise is called into the defence, while Vålerenga midfielder Fidèle Brice Ambina replaces the injured Yvan Neyou.
In contrast, key figures such as Enzo Boyomo and Christopher Wooh are absent, signalling a shift in the coach’s tactical priorities.
The return of André Onana is one of the headline inclusions.
The Trabzonspor goalkeeper, who has rediscovered his best form in Turkey, reclaims his position as the team’s mainstay between the posts.
With Cameroon sitting second in Group D on 15 points, four behind leaders Cape Verde, Onana’s experience could prove crucial.
The Indomitable Lions must beat Mauritius on 8 October and Angola on 13 October in Yaoundé while hoping the Blue Sharks falter to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Brys’ selection shows a balance of seasoned internationals and rising talents, reflecting his intent to refresh the squad without losing its competitive edge.
The forward line remains stacked with experienced names such as Vincent Aboubakar, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bryan Mbeumo, alongside emerging players like Danny Namaso and Patrick Soko.
