World Cup 2026: We’ll give our best in the remaining matches – Morocco midfielder Brahim Diaz
Morocco international Brahim Diaz has expressed his delight after helping the Atlas Lions to secure qualification to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing his outfit will give their all in the remaining matches.
The Atlas Lions booked their place in the last eight after a convincing 3-0 victory over Canada in the Round of 16, setting up a highly anticipated clash against France.
Speaking to FIFA’s official website after the match, Diaz highlighted the importance of the achievement while insisting the team’s full focus is now on the quarterfinal showdown.
“It’s a dream to experience this World Cup, to reach the quarterfinals, and to contribute to the team. The most important thing for us is that we’ve qualified for the quarterfinals.”
The Moroccan playmaker admitted the encounter against Canada was far from straightforward, praising the mentality shown by the squad in overcoming difficult moments before taking control of the game.
“The mental aspect was crucial, as the first half was far from easy,” he explained.
“Ultimately, this reflects the team’s character and mentality. Our ability to overcome difficult situations gives us confidence that we are ready to face any opponent.”
Diaz delivered another standout performance by providing two assists in the victory, setting up goals for Azzedine Ounahi and Soufiane Rahimi.
The assists took his tournament tally to four in five matches, underlining his growing influence in Morocco’s impressive World Cup campaign.
Reflecting on the celebration after Rahimi’s goal, Diaz revealed how much the moment meant to him.
“My teammates love and appreciate me a lot. After the third goal, they treated me like a star, and that made me very happy.”
Despite Morocco’s historic run, the former Real Madrid CF midfielder insisted the squad remains grounded and fully focused on the next challenge rather than looking too far ahead.
“The truth is that a great job was done at the World Cup in Qatar, and even the players who are no longer part of the current squad are part of that story,” he noted, referencing Morocco’s historic 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar.
“We are very happy to be in the quarterfinals, and we will give our best in the rest of the competition.”
“We will focus on the next match; there’s no point in thinking beyond it. We’ve achieved a great feat, and we’re preparing in the best way possible for what lies ahead.”
Although Diaz is yet to score at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, his creativity has made him one of the standout performers of the tournament. With four assists in five matches, he currently ranks as the second-best assist provider in the competition behind Michael Olise of France national football team.
