World Cup 2026: We want to go as far as possible – Ivory Coast coach Emerse Fae
Ivory Coast head coach Emerse Faé has declared that the Elephants are targeting much more than just qualification to the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The African champions will face Curacao on Thursday, June 25, in their final Group E match, knowing that a positive result could secure their place in the round of 32.
Ivory Coast currently sit on three points after edging Ecuador 1-0 in their opening group-stage fixture, and confidence within the camp remains high ahead of the decisive encounter.
Speaking ahead of the game, Faé acknowledged that reaching the knockout stage would represent an important achievement for both the team and the country, but stressed that the Elephants are aiming far higher at the tournament.
“For the team, and for the country, it would be a source of pride to get through the first round,” Faé said.
“But I think we’re more ambitious than that. We’ll continue to look to the future and try to achieve the goal we’ve set ourselves, which is to go as far as possible in this competition.”
The Ivorian tactician’s comments reflect the growing belief surrounding the national team following their recent rise under his leadership. After guiding Ivory Coast to continental success at the Africa Cup of Nations, Faé has continued to build a competitive and confident squad capable of challenging top nations on the world stage.
The Elephants have shown defensive discipline and tactical organisation so far in the tournament, qualities that were evident during their hard-fought victory against Ecuador. With qualification now within touching distance, Ivory Coast will be eager to finish the group stage strongly and carry momentum into the knockout rounds.
Players and supporters alike are dreaming of a deep World Cup run, with Faé insisting that the ambition inside the camp extends far beyond merely participating.
Victory over Curacao would confirm Ivory Coast’s progress to the next stage and strengthen hopes that the Elephants can emerge as one of Africa’s standout representatives at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
