World Cup 2026: Morocco wrap up preparations with 1-1 draw against Norway
Morocco wrapped up their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Norway in an international friendly on Sunday night.
The encounter served as the final test for both nations before the start of the global tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with coaches using the occasion to fine-tune their teams.
Atlas Lions Strike Early
Morocco made an energetic start and nearly opened the scoring after six minutes when Abde Ezzalzouli tried his luck from distance. However, Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland was alert and comfortably gathered the effort.
The breakthrough arrived just two minutes later. Ezzalzouli turned provider with a clever pass that found Brahim Diaz on the edge of the penalty area. The attacking midfielder cut inside his defender before curling a brilliant finish into the bottom corner to give the Atlas Lions a deserved lead.
Morocco continued to look dangerous as they controlled large spells of the first half.
Norway Fight Back
Norway thought they had levelled matters in the 17th minute when Alexander Sorloth found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out following a foul in the build-up.
The Scandinavian side remained patient and eventually got their reward in the closing stages of the contest.
With 15 minutes remaining, Oscar Bobb slipped a neat pass into the path of Martin Odegaard, who kept his composure to place the ball beyond the goalkeeper and make it 1-1.
Focus Turns to Brazil Clash
The draw concludes Morocco’s pre-tournament schedule as attention now shifts to the start of their World Cup campaign.
The Atlas Lions will open their Group C journey against Brazil before taking on Scotland and Haiti in what promises to be a highly competitive group.
Although Morocco could not secure a victory in their final warm-up match, the performance offered encouraging signs as the team prepares for another shot at making history on football’s biggest stage.
