World Cup 2026: ‘Let’s not dwell on disappointment of Ghana’s exit – Kurt Okraku

Following the national team’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku issued a powerful call for resilience, urging football fans and stakeholders across the country to stand together rather than becoming paralyzed by the pain of defeat.

The Black Stars’ journey in North America came to an end in the Round of 32 on Saturday morning after a narrow, hard-fought 1-0 loss to Colombia at Kansas City Stadium.

A 14th-minute striking effort by Colombian forward Jhon Arias ultimately sealed Ghana’s fate, leaving fans across the nation deeply dejected after a highly anticipated tournament run.

In an official statement released after the tournament exit, Okraku emphasized that the setback should serve as a building block for the future rather than a source of continuous sorrow.

“Let us not use this moment to dwell on the disappointment of the team’s inability to advance to the next Round of the World Cup but forge ahead with renewed determination and oneness of purpose to build a stronger team for the future,” Okraku stated on the GFA website.

The administrative leader chose to highlight the progress made by the senior national team, noting that navigating out of a brutal Group L – which included a victory over Panama and a draw against England – marked the first time under his tenure that Ghana had advanced past the tournament’s group stage.

The narrative of forward-looking optimism was echoed by key figures within the squad, including star forward Antoine Semenyo, who reinforced the president’s message by labeling the knockout elimination as an essential lesson rather than a definitive failure.

The GFA President has also affirmed his commitment to deep squad restructuring as the Black Stars prepare to resume their highly critical 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign later this year.
