Kaizer Chiefs must focus on their own results to stay in title race, says Dillan Solomons

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons says his side must concentrate on controlling their own performances if they are to remain alongside Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership title race.

Amakhosi are third in the league table and, like their two rivals, are still unbeaten after an explosive start to the campaign.

With all three members of the traditional ‘Big Three’ showing strong form, Solomons believes there is little room for mistakes. Any lapse could have a major impact on a club’s hopes of challenging for the title as the season develops.

The defender said Kaizer Chiefs keep a close eye on the performances of both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, but insisted that their priority must be to maintain their own progress.

“Obviously, you watch every game when it comes to the other two teams. For us, it’s [important] to stay on course, and [continue] doing what we need to do and know our way,” Solomons said.

“Obviously, we want to achieve things with the club, and that’s what we’ve got to do. We can’t be just focussing on what other clubs are doing.

“We are all going to have a tight schedule coming close to the end of the year, but for us, we have to stay on course and focus on what we can control, which is our games.”

Kaizer Chiefs will next travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium to face Polokwane City on Saturday, 12 September 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

A victory in Limpopo would strengthen their position in the standings and increase the pressure on the two teams above them as the contest becomes increasingly tight.

Mamelodi Sundowns will also be seeking to maintain their position at the top of the table when they visit Chippa United at the Buffalo City Municipality Stadium in KuGompo City on Saturday.

Orlando Pirates have additional commitments away from the domestic competition. They must first attend to their CAF Champions League duties before returning to Betway Premiership action on Thursday, 17 September 2026.

The Pirates will host Durban City FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto when they resume their league campaign. Their schedule, like that of the other leading clubs, will become increasingly demanding as the year draws to a close.

For Kaizer Chiefs, Solomons’ message is that their challenge is not to track every move made by their rivals, but to ensure they continue collecting results from their own matches. With all three sides unbeaten, maintaining that consistency will be central to remaining in the chasing pack.
