World Cup 2026: Derrick Luckassen reports to Black Stars camp amid Djiku fitness concerns
Derrick Luckassen has reported to the Black Stars camp as concerns grow over Alexander Djiku’s fitness ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana’s technical team is closely monitoring Djiku’s situation after the defender suffered an injury setback that could keep him out of the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Luckassen, who made his Ghana debut in a friendly against Germany in March, has been identified as the most likely replacement if Djiku is eventually ruled out. The 30-year-old arrives in camp on the back of an excellent season with Cypriot side Pafos FC, where he played a leading role in both domestic and European competitions.
His performances in the UEFA Champions League, where he made eight appearances and scored once, impressed the Black Stars coaches and strengthened his case for inclusion. Known for his versatility across the backline and strong leadership, Luckassen offers experience and stability at a crucial time.
Sources indicate that Luckassen will train with the squad in the United States while the medical team continues to assess Djiku’s condition. If Djiku fails to recover in time, Luckassen is expected to slot in as part of Ghana’s final World Cup roster.
