World Cup 2026: Vinícius Jr and Matheus Cunha fire Brazil to victory over Haiti
Brazil climbed to the top of Group C at the 2026 World Cup after securing a comfortable 3-0 victory over Haiti in Philadelphia on Friday.
The five-time world champions produced a dominant first-half display to earn all three points, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice before Vinícius Júnior added a third goal before the interval.
The result leaves Brazil leading the group with four points and a superior goal difference to Morocco, while Haiti remain bottom of the standings without a point.
Brazil asserted control early in the contest and quickly began creating problems for the Haitian defence through their pace and movement in transition.
Their pressure was rewarded in the 23rd minute when Cunha opened the scoring, giving the South Americans the breakthrough they had been searching for.
The forward struck again 13 minutes later, completing his brace after another attacking move exposed Haiti’s defence. The second goal further strengthened Brazil’s grip on the match and left their opponents facing a difficult task before half-time.
Any hopes Haiti had of mounting a response suffered another setback in stoppage time at the end of the first half.
Vinícius Júnior extended Brazil’s lead in the 45th minute plus three additional minutes, finishing off a rapid attacking move that began with Lucas Paquetá. The goal ensured Brazil headed into the break with a commanding three-goal advantage.
With the result effectively secured before the interval, Brazil were able to manage the game and protect their lead during the second half.
The victory represents an important step forward in Brazil’s campaign as they continue their pursuit of a place in the knockout rounds.
Group C remains closely contested at the top, but Brazil’s superior goal difference places them ahead of Morocco after two rounds of matches.
Scotland sit third with three points, while Haiti occupy fourth position after suffering a second consecutive defeat.
For Brazil, the performance delivered both goals and confidence as the tournament continues, while Haiti face a challenging task to revive their campaign in the remaining group fixtures.
