World Cup 2026: Nine injured in shooting near England’s Kansas City base
Nine people have been injured in a mass shooting just a short distance from England’s World Cup training base and team hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.
The incident took place on Troost Avenue, roughly four miles from the facility being used by the Three Lions during their 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations.
Police Respond to Early Morning Gunfire
Authorities were called to the scene at around 4am on Saturday after reports of gunfire in the area.
When police arrived, they reportedly found a large crowd dispersing in panic as emergency services moved in to secure the scene.
Kansas City Police Department captain Jake Becchina confirmed that several victims were initially transported to hospital, with further updates indicating that nine adults were shot and taken to local medical facilities.
Officials have stated that all victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation Underway as No Suspects Arrested
Police say no arrests have been made so far, and investigations are ongoing as officers continue to patrol the area.
Authorities are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which occurred just days before England’s arrival in the city for the World Cup.
England Squad in Final Preparations
The incident comes as the England national team continues its final preparations ahead of the tournament.
The squad is currently based in Palm Beach, Florida, where they recently recorded a 1-0 win over New Zealand in a warm-up match in Tampa.
England are scheduled to face Costa Rica in Orlando before travelling to Kansas City on June 13, where they will remain for their group stage matches.
Other Teams Also Based in Kansas City
Kansas City is set to host several international teams during the World Cup, including Argentina and the Netherlands, both of whom will use separate training facilities across the city.
England are expected to train at Swope Soccer Village, located in the southeastern part of Kansas City, once they arrive.
A spokesperson for the Football Association declined to comment on the incident.
