The request filed by the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) contesting the qualification of Cameroon for the 2014 World Cup has been confirmed as unfounded. A FIFA source in Yaoundé clarified that the allegations against Eric Choupo-Moting and Joel Matip, claiming they did not obtain Cameroonian naturalization in accordance with the standards, are baseless.
Both Choupo-Moting and Matip have been playing for the Indomitable Lions since 2010 and participated in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The new FIFA regulations allow players who haven’t played in official competitions for the A selection of their host country to play for another selection without age limit, provided they provide FIFA with supporting documents proving their nationality of the country of origin.
With the clarification from FIFA, Samuel Eto’o and the Cameroonian team can now fully celebrate their qualification for the World Cup after a convincing 4-1 victory over Tunisia.
