Woman stabs husband in Italy for supporting Napoli
A shocking domestic dispute in the Italian city of Naples has left a man in critical condition after an argument over football spiralled into a violent confrontation.
Authorities have arrested a 35-year-old woman on suspicion of domestic violence and causing serious bodily harm following what investigators describe as a heated misunderstanding during a match broadcast.
According to Italian media reports, tensions flared while the 40-year-old husband was passionately watching his team, Napoli, face Atalanta.
The decisive moment came when the referee overturned a penalty decision in favour of the side coached by Antonio Conte after consulting the Video Assistant Referee system. Furious at the call, the husband reportedly unleashed a stream of insults directed at the officiating.
Investigators say the wife believed the outburst was aimed at her, a misunderstanding that quickly ignited a fierce argument. She allegedly demanded that her husband leave their home immediately. When he refused, the confrontation took a violent turn.
Reports indicate that the woman initially attacked him with scissors before grabbing kitchen knives and stabbing him in the side. Despite suffering significant blood loss, the injured man managed to contact emergency services as the suspect allegedly continued hurling sharp objects at him.
Officers from the Carabinieri arrived shortly after and arrested the woman at the scene. Authorities reportedly discovered three additional bladed weapons inside her personal bag. She has since been taken into custody and is expected to face charges of domestic violence and armed assault.
The husband was rushed to hospital, where medical personnel described his condition as serious as he continues to receive treatment for his injuries.
