Wilson Waweru crosses to England as Wealdstone bolster attack

Ireland and Kenya forward Wilson Waweru has joined Wealdstone from Cobh Ramblers, giving the National League club a new centre-forward for the 2026-27 season.

The 25-year-old, who was born in Galway, moves to England after spending the first part of 2026 with Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland First Division. He joined the Cork-based club from Sligo Rovers on a free transfer on 1 January 2026, having previously played for Galway United.

Waweru has 130 First Division appearances to his name, scoring 33 goals and providing 12 assists. He has also made 44 appearances in the Premier Division, where he scored nine times and recorded one assist.

His record includes further goals in cup competition, with three in nine FAI Cup matches, one in two League of Ireland Cup appearances and five in four Munster Senior Cup games. He also scored once across eight play-off appearances.

Waweru was part of the Cobh Ramblers side that won the Munster Senior Cup in the 2022-23 season. He was also named Player of the Year during his career, although the award year is not specified.

The forward began his senior club career with Galway United after leaving Galway Academy in 2018. He moved to Cobh Ramblers on loan in January 2023 before returning to Galway United when that loan ended in November of the same year. A permanent switch to Sligo Rovers followed at the start of 2024, before his return to Cobh this year.

At 1.86m tall and with a preferred right foot, Waweru arrives at Wealdstone as an experienced striker whose career has been built across Ireland’s top two divisions. His move also represents a change of country and league, with Wealdstone competing in the English National League.

Waweru completed his move from Cobh Ramblers to Wealdstone on 14 August 2026.
