Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reportedly declined a big-money offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq, with fresh details emerging about his decision.
Al-Ettifaq, who recently secured the services of Mohau Nkota and have been linked with South Africa’s Relebohile Mofokeng and Cameroonian international Georges-Kévin N’Koudou, had also set their sights on the former Chelsea and Arsenal star.
According to reports, the Saudi club made a swift approach for the ex-CAF Men’s Footballer of the Year following his departure from Al-Qadsiah, where his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
However, French outlet L’Équipe reports that Aubameyang has turned down the lucrative deal as he edges closer to rejoining his former club, Olympique Marseille.
The 35-year-old forward is expected to complete his medical this week before penning a two-year contract with the French giants.
Aubameyang enjoyed a prolific previous spell at Marseille, scoring 30 goals and providing 11 assists in 51 appearances.
