Former French international William Gallas believes young defender Leny Yoro, who has Ivorian heritage, requires a seasoned leader at Manchester United to help him reach his full potential.
He compared Yoro’s situation to Raphael Varane’s early years at Real Madrid, emphasizing the importance of having a mentor like Sergio Ramos.
Speaking to Spin Genie, Gallas acknowledged Yoro’s talent but suggested that the timing of his move to Old Trafford might not have been ideal.
He pointed out that United’s struggles could make it difficult for a young player to develop under intense pressure.
“Yoro is a talented player and I think it was normal for him to take the next step to go to Manchester United, I think it was the right club but at the wrong time.
“United are struggling and for young players like him, it can be really difficult to improve when the pressure is so high. You need time.
“I hope Yoro will really have the opportunity to learn. If you take the example of Varane, he had the experience of Sergio Ramos to learn from. Who has Yoro got at Manchester United?”
Despite an early-season injury, Yoro has made 21 appearances across all competitions under manager Ruben Amorim this season.
His performances have shown promise, but Gallas believes proper guidance will be key to his long-term success at the club.
