'When you have surgery, it's serious' – Guardiola confirms Dutch-Ivorian Nathan Aké out for 10-11 weeks

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that defender Nathan Aké, who has Ivorian heritage, will be out of action for “10-11 weeks” due to a “serious” injury that required surgery.

The news comes as a massive blow to the team as they prepare to face Nottingham Forest in a crucial Premier League match this Saturday.

Speaking at his latest press conference, Guardiola provided details on Aké’s condition, stating, “10-11 weeks they said to me (to be out).

“When you have surgery, it’s serious. He has struggled a lot this season with the problems in his feet.”

This setback adds to Aké’s injury-plagued season, during which he has only managed to make 18 appearances across all competitions.

The Dutch international, born to an Ivorian father and Dutch mother, has been a key figure in Manchester City’s defense since joining the club in 2020.

His versatility and ability to play both as a centre-back and left-back have made him a valuable asset to Guardiola’s squad.

However, this latest injury, which occurred during City’s FA Cup fifth-round match against Plymouth Argyle, has dealt a blow to both the player and the team.

Despite the challenges posed by Aké’s absence, Manchester City is focused on maintaining their momentum as they prepare to face Nottingham Forest.

The match presents an opportunity for City to leapfrog Forest in the Premier League standings, potentially moving from fourth to third place.

Guardiola emphasized the importance of the fixture, stating, “It’s different, but the reality is that we try to finish in the top four. Tomorrow, we have an opportunity to climb and help secure this target.”
