France-born midfielder of Congolese descent, Yann M’Vila, has bemoaned the relegation of Caen from the French Ligue 2.
Speaking in an interview, the veteran midfielder said the club is going down to where it belongs.
He admitted that the club has had a chaotic season and does not deserve to be in the French Ligue 2.
“We’re not going to lie to ourselves, we’re where we belong. We’ve had a chaotic season, a shitty season. A club like Caen finishing last in Ligue 2 means the players are shit. I’ve never seen anything like that,” Yann M’Vila said.
Caen’s relegation was confirmed on Saturday after a heavy defeat to Lorient with two matches left to play. Les Vikings sit bottom of the table with 21 points, making it mathematically impossible for them to catch 17th-placed Clermont Foot.
M’Vila joined Caen during the summer transfer window after leaving West Bromwich Albion in England’s EFL Championship. Having returned to France, the 34-year-old had hoped to inspire Caen’s return to Ligue 1 following their previous relegation.
Unfortunately, the club has been relegated.
