West Ham United’s manager, David Moyes, expressed disappointment as star player Mohammed Kudus concluded his tenure with the club ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Ghanaian midfielder is set to depart for his national team’s training camp this weekend, marking the beginning of preparations for the prestigious tournament scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast next month.
Kudus, a standout performer since his arrival at the London club during the summer transfer window, has notably contributed ten goals in 23 appearances.
Moyes, acknowledging Kudus’s significant role in the team, called upon “other players” to rise to the occasion in his absence, particularly after his noteworthy performance in the recent victory against Arsenal.
Following the win over Arsenal on Thursday night, Moyes shared his thoughts with British media, stating, “It’s a brilliant start for us to have the most points in the Club at the halfway point of the season, and it’s another victory.”
Despite the positive momentum, Moyes acknowledged the upcoming challenge, remarking, “Unfortunately, we’re probably going to lose Mohammed Kudus for the Africa Cup of Nations, so we’re going to need other players to step up.”
Highlighting the need for a collective effort in Kudus’s absence, Moyes emphasized the importance of players stepping up and maintaining the team’s positive trajectory.
As West Ham looks to sustain its successful run, the manager’s call for collective responsibility resonates as the club navigates the period without Kudus during his international commitments.
