West Ham join race for Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane

West Ham join race for Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane

West Ham United have set their sights on Moroccan international Hamza Igamane as the battle intensifies to secure the services of the highly-rated Rangers forward.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign with the Scottish Premiership side last season, and his performances have drawn widespread attention across Europe.

According to FootMercato, West Ham have now joined a growing list of Premier League and Ligue 1 clubs closely monitoring the striker’s progress.

Igamane, who joined Rangers from Moroccan club AS FAR Rabat in the summer of 2024 for a reported fee of under €2.5 million, made an immediate impact at Ibrox.

Despite initially being considered a backup option behind Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers, he quickly climbed the ranks to become the club’s primary attacking force in the latter half of the season.

Across all competitions, the young striker featured in 46 matches, scoring 16 goals and registering 3 assists. His form helped galvanise Rangers’ attacking play and cemented his reputation as one of the most promising forwards to emerge from North Africa in recent years.

West Ham’s interest in Igamane comes as the club looks to bolster its attacking options ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign. The Hammers are not alone in their pursuit, however.

Fellow Premier League sides Brentford and Everton are also believed to be keeping close tabs on the Moroccan’s situation, while several Ligue 1 clubs, including Lens, Lille, Strasbourg, and Rennes, have reportedly expressed interest.

Igamane’s rise has been rapid. Just a year ago, he was playing in the Moroccan Botola Pro League. Since his move to Scotland, his game has evolved significantly, showcasing pace, composure, and a natural eye for goal.

His adaptability and ability to perform under pressure have made him a valuable asset for Rangers and an increasingly attractive target for clubs in Europe’s top leagues.

With his contract still in its early stages at Rangers, any transfer could require a substantial offer to convince the Glasgow club to part ways with one of their top performers.

However, given his current trajectory and the calibre of clubs pursuing him, a move this summer cannot be ruled out.

For West Ham, the potential signing of Igamane would signal intent as they aim to refresh their squad and inject more dynamism into their forward line.

With Michail Antonio ageing and question marks surrounding other attacking options, the Moroccan could represent both a long-term investment and an immediate contributor.

As the summer transfer window gathers pace, competition for Igamane’s signature is expected to intensify. Whether he remains in Scotland or makes the leap to England or France, the coming weeks are likely to shape the next chapter of a career that is quickly gaining momentum.

Rangers, for their part, will be keen to retain a player who has become integral to their plans. But with the spotlight growing ever brighter, they may face a difficult challenge in keeping hold of Hamza Igamane.
