Josh Maja’s spell at West Bromwich Albion Football Club has been marred by fresh injury woes. The Nigerian international, just returning from a spell on the sidelines, was forced off the pitch after 35 minutes following a severe tackle during his side’s recent game.
West Brom’s coach, Carlos Corberan, expressed deep concern over the striker’s condition, labeling the incident as “unfair,” though the extent of the injury remains unspecified.
Corberan highlighted the challenges Maja has faced, joining the team without a pre-season and gradually integrating into the squad.
“In the last three weeks, we got him back to be ready with the team, and the first time he was put in the first starting XI because Asante couldn’t play more than 30 minutes on medical advice, he had another injury, in the same ankle, with a fault,” Corberan explained.
This setback comes after Maja’s previous absence due to a challenge that went unrecognized by the match officials, resulting in an eight-week layoff.
The manager expressed dismay over the sequence of events, emphasizing the recurring injury to the same ankle and its unfortunate timing.
Corberan admitted uncertainty regarding the duration of Maja’s absence, expressing hope for a swifter recovery but acknowledging the lack of clarity at present.
The repeated injuries, particularly to the same area, have raised concerns about the striker’s condition and potential impact on his availability for upcoming matches.
West Bromwich remains optimistic but cautious about Maja’s recovery, awaiting further assessments to determine the extent of the new setback and its implications for his return to the pitch.
