Kenya defender Haniff Wesonga delivered another commanding display as Jamus FC strengthened their title push with a 2-0 victory over Malakia FC at Juba National Stadium on Thursday evening.

The result, secured on April 16, was driven by a clinical brace from Christian Yawanendji Theodore, whose finishing ensured the defending champions reduced the gap to leaders El Merriekh Bentiu to just two points after 22 rounds.

It was a timely response from Jamus following their recent South Sudan Cup semi-final exit, where they fell 1-0 to rivals El Merriekh SC Bentiu earlier in the week.

At the heart of the performance was Wesonga, who completed the full 90 minutes and once again underlined his growing influence in the backline.

Calm under pressure and decisive in key moments, the Kenyan international organized the defence with authority, cutting out danger early and ensuring Malakia’s attacking efforts never gained real traction.

His contribution marked a tenth clean sheet across all competitions this season, reinforcing his importance to Jamus’ structure.

Jamus asserted control from the outset, dominating possession and dictating tempo with measured build-up play. Their superiority in midfield allowed them to win second balls consistently and sustain pressure, while quick transitions stretched Malakia’s defensive shape.

Theodore opened the scoring in the 22nd minute to settle the contest before adding a second after the interval, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.

Despite brief spells of resistance from Malakia, Jamus remained composed, managing the game intelligently and maintaining their defensive discipline.

The victory completed a league double over the fifth-placed side and reaffirmed Jamus’ credentials as serious contenders.

With momentum regained and the title race tightening, the champions appear firmly back on course in their pursuit of consecutive league honours.
