Chelsea have strongly condemned the disgraceful racist abuse directed at Wesley Fofana following their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.
The French-Ivorian defender, 24, received a series of offensive messages on social media, which he later shared via his Instagram story. Many fans believed he was fortunate to escape a red card after multiple fouls at the Emirates Stadium.
“Chelsea Football Club is appalled and disgusted by the recent rise in online racial abuse towards our players,” the club stated.
“The abuse Wes Fofana has been subjected to following yesterday’s fixture is abhorrent and will not be tolerated. Wes and all our players have our full support. We will work with the relevant authorities in identifying the perpetrators and take the strongest possible action.”
Chelsea’s firm stance against discrimination follows increasing concerns over online abuse targeting footballers in the Premier League. The club remains committed to supporting Wesley Fofana and ensuring those responsible face consequences.
