Belgian midfielder of Congolese descent, Youri Tielemans, has expressed both pride and disappointment following Aston Villa’s narrow exit from the UEFA Champions League.
Despite a spirited 3–2 victory in the second leg at Villa Park, Villa were eliminated 5–4 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Tielemans, who scored Villa’s opening goal in the 34th minute, acknowledged the team’s efforts and the fine margins that defined the tie.
“We pushed, we put them under pressure, we created chances, we scored those goals, but we’re disappointed not to have managed to score at least that extra goal.
The match saw Villa fall behind 2–0 early on, with PSG extending their aggregate lead to 5–1.
However, goals from Tielemans, John McGinn, and Ezri Konsa ignited hopes of a comeback.
Despite dominating the latter stages and creating several opportunities, Villa couldn’t find the decisive fourth goal to level the aggregate score.
Reflecting on PSG’s performance, Tielemans acknowledged their quality and potential to win the tournament.
“Paris winning the Champions League? Yes, why not? If they’re here, it’s because they have the qualities to be there. They’ll have to be ready now for the next matches,” he stated.
