Werder Bremen defender Karim Coulibaly steps up ball work in positive injury comeback sign

Werder Bremen youngster Karim Coulibaly has taken an encouraging step on his road back from injury, completing his first individual session on the pitch with the ball on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old central defender has been sidelined for more than three weeks due to a thigh muscle problem.

This latest workout marks an important stage in his recovery, as he moves from pure fitness and rehab work to football-specific drills again. However, the club is still not putting a firm date on when he might return to the matchday squad.

Coach Daniel Thioune recently indicated that Sunday’s home game against Mainz, will likely come too soon for the teenager. Even so, the sight of Coulibaly back on the grass, working individually and getting touches on the ball, is being viewed inside the club as a clear positive sign that he is heading in the right direction.

For Bremen, managing his comeback carefully is key, given both his age and potential. Fans will now be watching training updates closely, hoping it will not be too long before Coulibaly is once again an option in central defence on matchdays.
