Werder Bremen coach happy with Victor Boniface return

Werder Bremen head coach Daniel Thioune has expressed his excitement over the impending return of Nigerian forward Victor Boniface, describing the striker’s comeback as a potentially decisive factor in the club’s fight for survival.

Boniface has been sidelined since December after suffering a serious knee injury that ultimately required surgery, ruling him out for a significant portion of the campaign.

At the time, it appeared the powerful forward’s season was over. However, in a major boost for the Bundesliga side, the Nigerian international is now closing in on a return before the end of the season.

Speaking to the club’s official channels, Thioune revealed he recently held a detailed conversation with the 23-year-old, coming away impressed by Boniface’s determination to contribute during the crucial final stretch.

“First of all, I’m happy to have met him. We had a long talk,” Thioune said. “He indicated that he wants to help us in our fight to stay in the league.”

For Bremen, who are locked in a tense battle to avoid relegation, Boniface’s return could not come at a better time. Known for his physical presence, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing, the striker offers a different attacking dimension—something Thioune believes could prove vital in tightly contested fixtures.

While the coach was quick to temper expectations about an immediate return, he hinted that Boniface could be gradually reintegrated in the coming weeks, particularly against direct rivals in the relegation battle.

“For me, that offers another option, but not for this weekend,” Thioune explained. “In the coming weeks, we’re playing against teams of similar strength, and if we can give Victor a few minutes of playing time, that could be a big help and a real asset for us.”

Before his injury setback, Boniface had been enjoying a promising campaign, contributing 8 goals and 5 assists in all competitions for Bremen. His absence was keenly felt, with the team struggling at times to convert chances and maintain a consistent attacking threat.

His expected return now injects renewed optimism into the squad and fanbase alike. Beyond his on-field qualities, Boniface’s hunger and commitment—evident in his eagerness to rejoin the fight—could provide an emotional lift in the dressing room.

As the season enters its decisive phase, Bremen will be hoping that Boniface’s comeback can inspire a late surge and ultimately secure their Bundesliga status.
