Young Africans coach Pedro Goncalves has set sights on breaking their winless away run against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.
The Tanzanian giants travels to Egypt to face Al Ahly at the Borg El Arab stadium in a highly competitive CAF Champions League on Friday, January 22, 2026.
It promises to be a thrilling encounter, as both teams will be yearning for maximum points to better their chances of making it out of the group stages.
Currently, the Egyptian giants sit top of their group after two matches, but are tied on four points each with Young Africans.
Gonçalves, 49, has been in charge of Young Africans since last November, and has not suffered a single defeat in 7 matches across all competitions, winning 6 times and drawing once.
In an interview, the former Angola coach expressed his outfit are posied to end their winless away run against the Egyptian giants.
“Honestly, we can’t focus on that. We hope this record will be broken in this match, but we know that achieving victory will require significant sacrifices on physical, mental, and psychological levels”
Despite missing out on the AFCON 2025 title, Pedro Goncalves believes that could not have any psychological impact on Al Ahly players, who competed for Egypt at the tournament.
“I don’t think that will have any impact. These are big, experienced players, and they know very well how to separate the two contexts”
Meanwhile, the experienced trainer has botched to reveal the plan as they gear up for the titanic clash against Egypt.
“I can’t reveal the game plan, but the new players already featured in the last match and are available for this one. The most positive sign for us is that they joined with high spirits, a genuine desire to help the team and add quality, and they’ve shown a complete commitment to fighting for the club”
