Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is urging his teammates to stay sharp after their gritty 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League first leg.
The Paris-born Malian center-back relished the win but made it clear that the tie is far from over, with the decisive second leg still to come at Anfield.
Despite PSG’s relentless pressure, Alisson Becker’s heroics kept Liverpool in the game before Harvey Elliott’s late strike sealed a crucial result. Speaking to the club’s official website, Konate acknowledged the challenge posed by the French giants but emphasized Liverpool’s resilience.
“We knew PSG are a great team, maybe one of the best in Europe. And we knew today they would have the ball more than us, we knew this already. And we knew this game was about details. At the end, we go with 1-0 and I think this is great. But we have to be aware and focus as well when we play (the second leg) at home because we know they have a lot of quality. But first, be focused on the game on Saturday and after we can think about the game at home,” he said.
Konate also heaped praise on Alisson’s stunning performance, hoping the goalkeeper’s form continues as Liverpool push for silverware.
“Ooh la la! I’ll try to think but I don’t think so. Thank you Ali today – he had a very great night and I hope we will have this Ali until the end of the season.”
With a place in the next round at stake, Konate stressed the importance of the squad’s depth and collective effort, knowing the real test awaits at Anfield.
“For sure the job is not done, nothing happened. I think the most important game will be at home and in this day we have to make the job.”
