Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has dismissed injury woes as excuses ahead of their Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash against Inter Milan on Tuesday.
The Bavarians are contending with a significant injury crisis, missing several key players for the upcoming match.
Among the absentees are captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who is sidelined due to a broken rib sustained in December 2024.
Defenders Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano are also out with serious knee injuries.
Midfielders Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala are unavailable, with Musiala’s absence particularly impactful as he is expected to be out for two months.
Additionally, Hiroki Ito is recovering from a mid-foot fracture, and Aleksandar Pavlovic is undergoing rehabilitation.
Despite these challenges, Kompany maintains a resolute stance, emphasizing the importance of focusing on available resources.
“What can I say, we have entered a difficult situation. But we are in the Champions League and we have to look forward, not backwards,” Kompany told the media.
“The available players will give their best, those who will go on the field have always trained at the top and will make their contribution.
“I have faith in these players, I don’t want to complain and I don’t want to change our goal or my strategies. Those who play are 100% and it means that they have my trust.”
Kompany’s leadership is influenced by his diverse heritage; born in Brussels to a Belgian mother and a Congolese father, he brings a unique cultural perspective to his managerial approach.
