USA international of Liberian descent Timothy Weah has set sights on helping the Yankees to secure the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament.
The global showpiece has been scheduled to take in North America, with USA, Canada and Mexico co-hosting the biggest soccer mundial next year.
However, the enterprising winger, who joined Marseille in the summer has shared his dream of winning the 2026 World Cup with the United States, a tournament that will be played on home soil.
“It’s a dream,” Weah said at a press conference. “I’ve already played in one, but this is different because it will be at home – my whole family, my friends will be there. It’s an immense source of pride. You don’t get the chance to play a World Cup at home every day.”
“As a team, we’re very proud. We have to give everything to win this World Cup. In my head, we could be the worst team in the world, I don’t care. If I tell myself that we want to go and win it, then we’re going to go and get it.” He added.
The 25-year-old attacker has made 47 appearances for the USA national team, scoring seven goals across the period.
