Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has encouraged his former Chelsea teammate Kevin De Bruyne to consider a move to Anfield as the Belgian midfielder prepares to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.
De Bruyne, who has been a pivotal figure for City over the past decade, is set to depart the Etihad Stadium when his contract expires, although his next destination remains uncertain.
Salah, who briefly played alongside De Bruyne at Chelsea, spoke highly of the 32-year-old in an interview with Sky Sports.
“I want to tell him congratulations for your career. He’s done a phenomenal job at City, and he was great for the league. I really wish him the best…and we have a space for him!” Salah said.
The Egyptian forward also reflected on his own recent contract extension with Liverpool, noting the club’s decision to retain him despite their typical stance on players over 30.
“The philosophy of the club, I know how they deal with their players over 30 in the past. I didn’t expect I was going to stay. It’s not something bad. We see how they deal with this situation in the past,” Salah said.
He added that the process took time but eventually worked out in his favour.
“It took six months for the negotiations to go really quick and from January things are getting better and better. It took us a while. I think the club was testing me to see if I could still provide or not!”
Liverpool, known for their focus on youth in recent years, made a notable exception in Salah’s case, securing the Egyptian to a long-term deal.
