Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has commended Newcastle United’s performance following the Bees’ 2-1 defeat at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night.
The Cameroon international scored Brentford’s sole goal from the penalty spot after Newcastle’s goalkeeper Nick Pope fouled Yoane Wissa.
Reflecting on the match, Mbeumo acknowledged the team’s strong performance but expressed frustration over the outcome.
He emphasized the challenge of facing a formidable opponent like Newcastle and highlighted the importance of securing points in away fixtures.
“It is a hard one tonight and we deserved more.
“It was good performance but at the end it was not enough. I think we knew it was going to be a tough game against a very good side and at the end it was a bit frustrating. It is hard to take.
“We knew it is important to get the points away. It is always tough to come here.
“It is really tight and we are going to give it our best game by game and see where it takes us.”
Throughout the 2024/2025 season, he has been instrumental for Brentford, featuring in 28 Premier League matches and scoring 15 goals.
His contributions extend to four assists, underscoring his pivotal role in the team’s offensive strategies.
The match saw Newcastle take the lead in first-half stoppage time through Alexander Isak’s 20th Premier League goal of the season.
Mbeumo’s penalty leveled the score, but a remarkable goal from Sandro Tonali in the 74th minute secured the victory for the Magpies.
