We can’t afford a draw against Rwanda – Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong

Nigerian defender William Troost Ekong set for Super Eagles return ahead of 2026 World Cup qualifiers

Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has set sights on securing maximum points against Rwanda in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier.

The three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions takes Rwanda on Friday, March 21 before hosting Zimbabwe on March 25 in a must-win clash.

The West Africa powerhouse are currently fifth in Group C following their unimpressive start to the qualifying series.

Nigeria has managed three draws and one defeat after the initial four matches. Currently trailing Rwanda, South Africa, Benin Republic, and Lesotho, the Super Eagles must deliver results to revive qualification hopes, with only the top team earning automatic slot.

Speaking in an interview, Troost-Ekong emphasized his outfit cannot afford to share spoils with Rwanda for the second running.

“We’ve read about our record in Kigali, but we’re not bothered. I was part of the last game there, which ended scoreless, but we know that we cannot afford a draw this time,” Troost-Ekong told thenff.com.

Nigeria arrived in Kigali on Monday for the much-anticipated clash tomorrow.
