Morocco defender, Jawad El Yamiq believes the Atlas Lions remain the strongest team in Africa, citing that the numbers are there to prove it.
The North African country wrapped up their March international break with a 2-0 win against Tanzania on Tuesday night after a hard fought 2-1 win against Niger all in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The win has strengthened the 2022 World Cup semifinalist’s lead in its group with 15 points.
Speaking to Al-Riyadiyah TV after the match, El Yamiq said, “We shouldn’t delve too deeply into the details of the performance and technical level. The numbers don’t lie, and they say we’re the strongest in Africa, and that’s been the case since the Qatar World Cup.”
“Another victory in an official match brings us closer to qualifying for the World Cup early, so we should appreciate and celebrate what we’ve done.
The Al-Wahda defender added., “For me, it doesn’t matter who I play with. I’ve been with Nayef Aguerd for years with the local national team, and we have a great understanding with the Atlas Lions. The Moroccan national team works as a group, and that’s what matters most.”
Morocco will resume their qualifiers in September with games against Niger and Zambia.
