Algeria's Petkovic considers surprise inclusion in squad selection

Bosnian manager Vladimir Petkovic couldn’t hide his delight after Algeria’s national team crushed Mozambique 5-1 on Tuesday night in the sixth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The thumping win propelled the Warriors to the top of Group G, and Petkovic was quick to praise his squad’s resilience and determination.

“We achieved a very important victory over the runner-up, which allowed us to take sole possession of the top spot in Group G, which strengthens our chances in the qualifiers,” Petkovic said during the press conference.

“Our players showed great fighting spirit and maintained their focus throughout the 90 minutes. This made me very happy and prompts me to thank them for everything they did today.

“I thank all the players for their excellent performance in the match, despite the fatigue and exhaustion they suffered after returning from Botswana. They showed great fighting spirit and focus.

“We have taken an important step forward with this victory, but we must focus and prepare well for our upcoming matches, as the qualifiers are not over yet.”
