The allocation of the eight seeds for the 2014 World Cup draw has been determined based on the FIFA ranking of October 17, 2013. The seeds include Brazil (host country), Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Switzerland, and Uruguay (if they qualify after the play-off against Jordan). However, if Jordan manages to qualify, the Netherlands would replace Uruguay as the eighth seed.
The organizing committee for the World Cup will meet on December 3, three days before the draw, to propose the composition of the other pots based on geographical and sporting criteria. This approach aims to ensure a balanced mix of teams from different qualifying zones in each group, preventing, for example, multiple teams from Africa or Asia being placed in the same group. The draw is scheduled for December 6 in Costa do Sauipe, Brazil.
