Paris Saint-Germain’s failure to convert chances into goals has become a recurring issue, and midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery was once again forced to address the problem following the team’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Auxerre.
Despite dominating possession and creating multiple opportunities, PSG’s inability to finish cost them another two points, leaving the young Frenchman frustrated with his team’s inefficiency.
“I repeat myself quite often because it’s often the same problem: we played a good game, we had chances but we didn’t convert them,” Zaire-Emery said in the mixed zone after the match.
“That’s the thing we’re missing. We were scoring at the start of the season, now it’s a bit more complicated. There’s perhaps a lack of concentration in the final move.”
PSG’s dominance was evident, as they controlled 75% of the possession and forced Auxerre’s goalkeeper, Donovan Léon, into an impressive 11 saves.
Yet, for all their superiority in the match, the Parisians could not find the back of the net. The result mirrors recent struggles, including last week’s goalless draw against Nantes and several unconvincing performances in the Champions League, where PSG has also been unable to capitalize on numerous chances.
“It’s a slightly more complicated period, but our matches are not bad. It’s just that we can’t capitalize,” Zaire-Emery added.
“When one of us is going to score, it will unfold with confidence.”
Despite the setback, the 17-year-old remains hopeful, urging that the team’s fortunes will improve once they start converting their chances.
However, the young midfielder knows that PSG’s next fixture—an important Champions League clash against Salzburg—could have significant consequences for their season.
The result could prove pivotal in determining whether the French champions can bounce back or continue their struggle in front of goal.
With mounting pressure and a crucial period ahead, PSG will need to address their finishing issues quickly.
