Walid Salah Eldin defends Al Ahly players and stands firm against media criticism
After Al Ahly’s fifth straight Egyptian Super Cup win, football director Walid Salah Eldin voiced his commitment to defending his squad from media rumors and false reports.
“I will confront sites and programs spreading misleading information about our players,” he declared on television. “My role is to protect them and I’m ready to face any consequences. I don’t let the team respond to every rumor, my job is to shield them, especially in issues concerning players like goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, and Mohamed Hani.”
He praised the team’s discipline, saying their recent Super Cup win in the UAE “proves their focus and spirit.” Eldin added, “Al Ahly deserved this trophy after a top performance against Zamalek, we played strong football against both Ceramica Cleopatra and Zamalek, collecting a vital title at the ideal moment.”
On Ahmed Sayed Zizo, whose refusal to shake hands with a Zamalek official sparked debate, Eldin explained: “Zizo did not offend anyone, his decision at the trophy ceremony was personal, tied to past circumstances.” A club source told Kooora this, emphasizing Zizo’s professionalism since joining Al Ahly.
Both Moroccan star Ashraf Bencharki and Hussein El Shahat credited the squad’s unity and the unwavering support of Al Ahly fans as key to their triumph, with hopes for more titles on the horizon.
