Walid Sadi has strengthened his position in football governance after his candidacy for the CAF Executive Committee was validated by the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Governance Committee.
As the sole candidate for the North African (UNAF) zone, his path to the influential role is now clear, in line with Article 18 of the CAF statutes.
Simultaneously, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) confirmed Sadi’s candidacy for its presidency.
A statement from the federation revealed that the FAF electoral commission convened on January 27, 2025, at 11 a.m. at its headquarters under the leadership of Me Bouaouina Ali.
The commission reviewed applications and determined that only one candidate list was submitted before the deadline of January 26.
This list, led by Sadi, includes 13 main members and five substitutes, with notable figures such as former Algerian international defenders Fodil Megharia from Chlef and Hassan Ghoula from Touggourt expected to be part of the new Federal Bureau. The elective general assembly is scheduled for February 25.
In addition to his candidacy, Sadi will present his moral and financial reports at an ordinary general meeting on Saturday, which will take place at the military circle of Béni Messous in Algiers.
The extraordinary general meeting on January 11 resulted in key changes to the statutes, reducing the general assembly’s composition to 93 members.
Under the revised provisions, candidates must secure the backing of at least five members to validate their candidacy.
Sadi comfortably surpassed this threshold, garnering support from 50 members.
Furthermore, reports suggest that FAF’s federal secretariat requested official endorsements from wilaya and regional leagues to bolster Sadi’s bid for the presidency.
A similar approach was previously adopted by former CAF president Issa Hayatou.
With his unopposed candidacy in both FAF and CAF, Sadi appears poised to play a significant role in shaping Algerian and African football in the coming years.
