Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has directed his assistant coaching staff to closely monitor Atlas Lions players taking part in the ongoing 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The scouting reports compiled during the tournament will play a key role in shaping Morocco’s squad selection for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Niger and Zambia.
Several Moroccan internationals, including Achraf Hakimi, Brahim Diaz, and Yassine Bounou, are currently in action at the tournament, offering Regragui an ideal opportunity to assess their form and fitness.
In addition, Regragui has placed special emphasis on tracking the progress of 18-year-old left-back Adam Aznou.
The youngster recently returned to Bayern Munich after a short loan spell with Real Valladolid, and could feature in the Club World Cup following an injury to Alphonso Davies.
“I left Aznou out of the June camp so he could fully focus on preparing with his club for the Club World Cup,” Regragui said in a recent television interview.
“We are now closely following his situation, especially with the possibility that he might start.”
Assistant coach Abdelaziz Bouhazama has been assigned the task of compiling a detailed report on Aznou’s performance.
Regragui views the Club World Cup as a pivotal stage in the teenager’s development and will weigh his progress when considering squad options for future tournaments.
Aznou is reportedly aiming to break into the senior national team setup, hoping to fill in as a potential replacement for injured defender Noussair Mazraoui ahead of the next Africa Cup of Nations.
