Morocco coach Walid Regragui acknowledged his side’s struggles despite their win against Tanzania on Tuesday night.
The Atlas Lions continued their impressive run in the qualifiers with a 2-0 win against Tanzania in the Matchday six games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
After a goalless first half, the home side broke the deadlock through Nayef Aguerd before Brahim Diaz sealed the win with a spotkick.
“Yes, this is reality. We’ve worked hard, but it’s been a fantastic journey with a perfect score and record numbers, and we’re on the verge of the World Cup in a very big way,” Regragui said after the game.
“This scenario has happened to us for the second time in a row, but we must look at the positive side as well, which is our success in finding solutions, and we did it again, just like we did against Niger, and this made me really happy.
“These situations benefit us a lot before the CAN and give us confidence, because it is not easy against a group of rivals to find a solution, score and not collapse in front of your fans. We were more agile and dynamic this time. We made some changes compared to the previous match, and the group was not affected, and this is evidence of the richness of the substitute bench that we have.
“Thank God for the victory we were looking for. We continued with the full mark and staying away at the top, and we are gradually approaching the dream of qualifying for the World Cup for the third time in a row, God willing. Here, we must congratulate the players on this achievement,” he added.
Morocco after six games played sit top of Group E with 15 points and will face Niger and Zambia in the Matchday 7 and 8 qualifying games in September.
