The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has announced its referral of the national anti-doping agencies of Nigeria and Venezuela to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) due to their failure to comply with requirements and conditions.
Last November, WADA imposed sanctions on the two agencies for their inability to meet “critical requirements,” while both agencies questioned WADA’s allegations.
In a statement released last Tuesday, WADA stated, “It has filed separate arbitration requests with the Court of Arbitration for Sport on February 9, and will not implement allegations of non-compliance and consequences until the Court of Arbitration for Sport issues its ruling.”
The sanctions, recommended by WADA’s Compliance Review Committee, entail the prohibition of Nigeria and Venezuela’s flags from being raised in competitions, and neither country will be allowed to host major sporting events until they meet the conditions for reinstatement.
