Algeria coach Vladimir Petkovic has made waves with his latest 29-man squad for June’s friendlies against Rwanda and Sweden, recalling several familiar faces while sidelining four players from the March camp.
Midfielders Nabil Bentaleb and Houssem Aouar headline the returning group, with Bentaleb’s inclusion especially notable after a long absence due to heart complications. Petkovic also brought back striker Baghdad Bounedjah, midfielder Ramiz Zerrougui, and defender Kevin Guiton.
However, goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja, defender Ahmed Touba, and midfielders Adam Zorgane and Ahmed Kendouci were left out, some for technical reasons, others due to injury.
Speaking at a press conference, Petkovic defended his picks, calling them the best options available from a pool of 50 players. He cited intense competition for the omission of standout performers like Adel Boulbina and Badredine Bouanani.
Petkovic stressed the importance of the upcoming matches, saying they’re not mere friendlies but chances to build confidence and shape the team’s future.
