Liverpool’s young defender, Jarell Quansah, has attributed his impressive progress this season to the invaluable mentorship and leadership provided by teammate Virgil van Dijk. Quansah shared his admiration for Van Dijk’s influence after both players featured prominently in Liverpool’s recent FA Cup victory against Norwich City.
Reflecting on his experience playing alongside the Dutch international, Quansah expressed his awe, stating, “It’s crazy, time just flies really.
Again, you just take every game as it comes, so obviously playing with Virg, the best centre-back in the world, it’s special, and what he’s doing with me, how he’s helping me, it’s inspiring.”
The young defender highlighted the multifaceted impact of Van Dijk’s guidance, emphasizing the significance of communication and shared insights during matches. Quansah noted, “It’s everything.
He talks to me, I watch him, throughout games you can probably hear him from the top of the Main Stand he’s so loud, he just talks you through the game, and you learn so much from him.”
Quansah also revealed the proactive nature of Van Dijk’s mentorship, recounting an instance before a recent game where the senior defender provided valuable insights about an opposing striker, Ashley Barnes.
“Even before the game today, he was helping me with the opposition striker [Ashley Barnes], and obviously he’s played against him before.
He’s doing so much for me, and I can’t thank him enough really at this stage,” Quansah added.
Van Dijk’s leadership on and off the pitch has evidently made a significant impact on Quansah’s development, highlighting the positive culture and camaraderie within Liverpool’s squad.
The mentor-protege dynamic between the seasoned Van Dijk and the emerging Quansah underscores the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent within its ranks.
