Uganda club Vipers hold memorial for late Nigerian striker Lawal, investigations continue

Vipers SC holds memorial for late striker Abubakar Lawal as investigation continues

Ugandan club Vipers SC has organized a prayer service at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende to honor the memory of their late striker, Abubakar Lawal.

The event is open to the public, allowing fans, teammates, and club officials to pay their final respects to the Nigerian footballer.

Lawal’s family has requested that his body be repatriated to Sokoto, Nigeria, for burial.

In response, Vipers SC chairman Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa has pledged to cover all costs associated with the process.

Arrangements for the repatriation are currently underway.

Investigation into Lawal’s death ongoing

The Kajjansi Police Division has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Lawal’s tragic passing.

The 26-year-old striker reportedly fell from the third floor of a shopping mall on Monday morning.

According to initial reports, Lawal had driven to the mall to visit a friend, identified as Naima, who resides there.

She reportedly left him momentarily to prepare tea before heading to a game room.

Shortly afterward, at around 8 a.m., Lawal is said to have fallen from the balcony.

He was rushed to Entebbe Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities recovered several personal belongings from his backpack, including two mobile phones, earphones, and a training kit.

Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage and conducting detailed interrogations in an effort to determine the exact circumstances leading to his fall.

Football community mourns a tragic loss

Lawal’s untimely death has left the football community in shock.

The Nigerian forward, who previously played for Kano Pillars, was regarded as a promising talent and had recently joined Vipers SC in the Ugandan Premier League.

As investigations continue, his club and fans remain in mourning, remembering him not only for his contributions on the pitch but also for his dedication and passion for the game.
